What business seeds will you be sowing right now?

Yesterday after a big walk around the mountains outside our house taking in all of the gorgeous nature in sight, we spent time on our vegetable patch, getting it ready to sow our seeds and seedlings. Here in the Northern hemisphere, we’re definitely approaching spring now, that time of the year where we’re making way for the new and laying the foundations for growth.

It got me thinking of how for some of us, our businesses are also likely to be in a similar season. For those of you who feel like your business is at a standstill or even a bit stagnant, maybe now is the time to have a good old spring clean, to start sowing new seeds within your business and preparing your foundations for all the new growth that is on its way.

We spent two hours on our veg patch yesterday. Two back-breaking hours of weeding, making raised beds, clearing wild spaces, burning the debris, and getting the patch in order. It wasn’t fun, and only now that I look out the window I can appreciate what we did. And this is so true with the seeds that you’ll be sowing for your business too.

Sowing seeds can be boring, hardwork and feel unproductive and unnecessary but, give it a few months, and you’ll start to see the first signs of all that work coming into fruition. It’s such a good reminder that the magic doesn’t happen instantly, with nature or with business.

What can you be doing right now to give your business a bit of a spring clean? How can you start to sow business seeds now that with time and patience will start to flourish?

Here are a few suggestions:

Spring clean

  • Have a good old business declutter.
  • Unsubscribe from email lists that don’t bring you joy.
  • Clear out your inbox and delete emails that you don’t need.
  • Sort out your systems and processes.
  • Clean up your accounts and bookkeeping.
  • Audit your website and remove stuff that no longer suits you and revitalise it with new copy, new photos and services.
  • Check through your contracts and booking agreements.
  • Read through your email templates and sales brochures and update where necessary.
  • Update listing and directories. Create new ones and/or delete ones that don’t serve you.
Sowing seeds
  • Create a Google My Business listing and start sowing seeds on the Google search engine. (Side note: I am getting about one or two booking a month via my GMB listing, after consistently sowing seeds with my listing over the years.) Members do check out our resources on this.
  • Get blogging/keep blogging - these are the best internet seeds around! Members we've created a whole course on this for you!
  • Reconnect with industry folk and plant seeds there with them. Remind them that you’re around, that you can help, that you’re thinking of them.
  • Keep up your celebrant education. Keeping sowing those learning seeds, which are soon going to become practical, actionable things that you will start to implement in your business and in your ceremony creation and practice.
So get spring cleaning and sowing your business seeds. Yes, it can be boring, back-breaking, eye-rolling, un-fun, frustrating and seemingly never-ending, but it will amount to something. And it will help your business to be up and ready, shining and sparkly, for when the season of growth kicks in.
