How do you dress for success as a celebrant?

By Natasha Johnson

July 24, 2020

This was a question that was asked to me recently by an American Celebrant called Sarah. I had been recently asking for topic suggestions for podcast episodes and this was hers that she shared via my Instagram post. Great question, right?

My usual and most direct response to this question is ‘wear whatever the hell you like,’ but I realize that this answer would amount to the shortest podcast episode ever. It would be the first podcast where the podcast intro would be longer than the episode itself! So I figured for this episode I should expand on my response of ‘wear whatever the hell you like,’ because I appreciate it needs expanding on a little!

Isn’t it funny though, that whilst how anyone dresses as a celebrant shouldn’t be a big deal, it does seem like for many it is a big deal! Having run the Celebrants Collective Facebook community for a number of years now, I’ve seen first hand that the subject of celebrant dress is something that a lot of people want to know about, that lots of advice is given on and many people have LOTS of varied opinions on. Most of these 'clothes advice' posts have the most engagement and comments than any other posts!

In this podcast episode I look at some of the mindset and thinking behind the ‘shoulds’ and ‘shouldn’ts of what celebrants wear. I also look at why it's so important for celebrants to own their sense of self and their sense of style.

Anyway, do listen to this episode to find out why I think anyone who is 'judgey' about what other celebrants choose to wear for their ceremonies, needs to be less ‘judgey’. AND, I also actually answer Sarah's question and share my thoughts on how I think celebrants should really dress for success, too!

You can listen here via the website or subscribe and listen via Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Stitcher.

As always, I hope you enjoy it!
